Hi, I’m Ivan Costarrosa Rios — Cinematic Lighting Artist and Film Maker.
I began my career in 3D in 1998, creating animated short films and building a strong foundation in visual storytelling. Early on, I worked in advertising and animated features, contributing to projects like El Ratoncito Pérez 2 and the Academy Award-nominated Chico y Rita.
Since 2012, I’ve worked internationally on major VFX productions for studios such as MPC, Framestore, Scanline, Trixter, DNEG, and Pixomondo. My credits include Guardians of the Galaxy, Warcraft, Independence Day: Resurgence, IT Chapter Two, Men in Black: International, Terminator: Dark Fate, The Conjuring, and A Monster Calls, as well as TV series like Outlander and Lost in Space.
Most recently, I served as Lead Lighting Artist at Pixomondo on HBO’s House of the Dragon, supervising international teams and helping define the cinematic look of complex sequences.
In 2017, I took a creative leap into directing. I studied filmmaking at ESCAC (Escola Superior de Cinema i Audiovisuals de Catalunya) and directed narrative shorts like Zaida and Vuelta y Vuelta. I also continue to explore visual storytelling through photography and independent projects.
Currently, I’m focused on real-time rendering with Unreal Engine, and researching emerging technologies in AI and virtual production to push the boundaries of how stories can be told visually.
